Bukk is the highest mountain range of Hungary reaching 959 m at Istallosko. Its rare geological formations are due to the large variety of minerals and surface emergies. Bukk plateau is the highest lime-stone highland plateau of Hungary. The 900 m caves in the Bukk mountains with their dripstone formations represent a special value for tourists.
The southern regions of Bukk have plenty of temporary springs, like Imo-ko; Voros-ko. Its flora and fauna have a rich diversity.

Most parts of the mountains are reserve area and Bukk National Park Centre is responsible for protecting of rare species of flora and fauna.
